MITSUBISHI MOTORS IN THE UK DRIVES AHEAD WITH SOLAR POWER

Mitsubishi Motors in the UK has completed the successful installation of a 50kWp Photo Voltaic (PV) solar electric generating system on the roof of its UK headquarters in Cirencester, Gloucestershire.

The installation is made up of 196 Mitsubishi Electric solar panels which are expected to generate 40,050 kilo Watt hours of energy. The system will save 17.2 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year, and is further evidence of Mitsubishi’s global commitment to promoting sustainability and environmental initiatives.

Lance Bradley, Managing Director of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, commented on the installation, saying:

“The decision to install Solar PV was a straight forward one. As well as offering good strong, sound business benefits, this move complements our growing reputation of leading the way in environmental technologies. Many of our vehicles now come with Auto Stop & Go technology; we were the first to the global market with a full production pure-electric vehicle, the i-MiEV; and are very proud to be launching one of the world’s first plug-in hybrids in 2013.

Whilst we know that the Government Feed in Tariff is set to be reduced in August, the increasing efficiency of panels, falling costs of the hardware and increasing energy costs are likely to still make the case to other businesses compelling, and we hope they will follow our lead.”

Gloucestershire based renewable energy business Glevum Energy, completed the successful installation of the system and Chairman of Glevum, Gary Jones, commented:

“We are very proud of our close working relationship with Mitsubishi Motors in the UK and so were delighted when we were chosen to install this solar PV system.”

The installation also includes a new ‘state-of-the-art’ energy generation and performance monitoring system, enabling performance to be monitored via the internet. A permanent real-time display in the main reception area will further demonstrate Mitsubishi Motors’ commitment to Green Energy.
